This "state of the art"
educational complex is the result of the Franklin County
School Board's application for Special Facilities Funding
through the Florida Department of Education being approved
in the State Budget by the Florida Legislature and signed by
the Governor. In addition to the facilities that are funded
through the Special Facilities Funding, the site plan
identifies space for future buildings.
The plans for future
facilities include a Gulf Coast Community College dual
enrollment/technical education facility, an auditorium,
transportation department and maintenance department
facilities, a swimming pool, and the district administrative
offices building. The athletic facilities at the site will
include facilities for football, track, soccer, basketball,
volley-hall, softball, baseball, tennis, wrestling,
weight-lifting, golf practice, and, in the future, aquatics
(swimming). Additional plans include a cooperative effort
with Florida State University to provide local access to
educational programming for undergraduate and graduate
degrees.
The design of the new school is by Clemons, Rutherford, and
Associates, Inc. and Project Architect Greg Kelley. Input
was provided to the architect through inservice sessions and
meetings with teachers and school staff, community town
hall/public hearings, and monthly workshops held in
conjunction with the regular school board meetings. Peter
Brown Construction, Inc. is the Construction Manager for the
New School.
"The Franklin County School Board wishes to thank all who
