School Health Services

Your child has the opportunity to participate in health services provided by the School District of Franklin County and the Florida Department of Health in Franklin County, as defined by the School Health Services Plan.

This plan is established in accordance with Florida Statute 381.0056. The mission of school health services is to enhance learning by promoting health and wellness for the children of Franklin County. School Health Rooms are staffed by Licensed Practical Nurses who are supervised by a School Nurse (Registered Nurse). The School Nurse is also the School Health Coordinator for the schools. The Health Room Staff can assist you in contacting the School Nurse if needed. Health information is confidential and is only shared with staff members that have a legitimate need to know.

Required screenings are listed below. Individual students may be referred for screenings as needed. Enhanced screenings may include dental screenings in grades listed (K, 1, 3, & 6) and blood pressure screenings in 9^th grade. Additionally, new students in K-5 will be screened for vision, hearing and growth & development. Parents are encouraged to seek medical evaluation of problems identified through the screening process.

Screenings:

Hearing: K, 1, 3, 6 and referrals

Vision: K, 1, 3, 6 and referrals

Growth and Development (Body Mass Index): 1, 3, 6 and referrals

Scoliosis (curvature of the spine): 6 and referrals

Blood Pressure: 9 and referrals

Parents who do not wish for their child to participate in health services and/or screenings must inform the school in writing each year.
