Franklin Special Olympics
2018 marks the 3rd year that both FCS and ABC athletes participated in the Special Olympics Franklin County Culminating Athletics Event. Athletes spent 8 weeks preparing for the county event. It was during that time that they chose and practiced the sport they wanted to compete in. Options included: 50m walking, 100m run, 200m run, standing long jump and shot put.
In preparation for the big event, students also learned about nutrition, following directions and physical fitness.
Competitors placed as follows.
- 50 M Walk: First place-Jacob Maxwell.
- 100 M Run: First place-Alex Howard, Brianna Cooper, Michael Melton, Josie Smith and Joseph Martin. Second place-William Chastaine, Jonathan Evans, Janalyn Hippensteal and Caleb Curry. Third place-Chip Ferrell and Robert McNeal. Fourth place-Nicholas Cooper, Khambrel Anthony and Daylin Page. Fifth place-Stacey Owens.
- 200 M Run: First place-Brianna Cooper, Michael Melton, Caleb Curry and Alex Howard; Second place-Robert McNeal, Janalyn Hippensteal, William Chastaine and Ashoni Fennell. Third place-Jonathan Evans, Nicholas Cooper and Daylin Page. Fourth place-Khambrel Anthony and Chip Ferrell. Fifth place-Stacey Owens.
- Standing Long Jump: First place-Jonathan Evans, Khambrel Anthony, Caleb Curry, William Chastaine and Michael Melton. Second place-Ashoni Fennell, Josie Smith, Robert McNeal, Alex Howard, Brianna Cooper and Stacey Owens. Third place-Joseph Martin and Janalyn Hippensteal. Fourth place-Daylin Page.
- Shot Put: First place-Caleb Curry, Stacey Owens, Andrea Cooper, Jacob Maxwell and Michael Melton. Second place-Alex Howard, Robert McNeal, Janalyn Hippensteal, and Joseph Martin. Third place-Josie Smith, William Chastaine, Jonathan Evans and Ashoni Fennell. Fourth place-Nicholas Cooper, Daylin Page and Brianna Cooper. Fifth place-Chip Ferrell and Khambrel Anthony.
