First Gulf Coast Scrimmage hosted at FCS
The first Gulf Coast State College Basketball Scrimmage game hosted at Franklin County Schools, September 30, 2021, in the FCS gym.
Among the crowd were middle and high school students and staff. They were ecstatic to witness a college level scrimmage up close and receive GCSC paraphernalia thrown out by GCSC staff.
At the end of the game, the basketball team invited the Seahawk nation for photos.
This opportunity began with a collaboration between GCSC President, Dr. Holdnak, and the Franklin County Superintendent, Steve Lanier.
Superintendent Lanier says he looks forward to "more collaborations" and making this "an annual event for the students."
Gulf Coast Athletic Director, Mike Kandler, sees this as way to connect with the communities in his service district.
Kandler says, "The last couple of years have been a tough time for our service district from Hurricane Michael and the pandemic"...
"This opportunity allowed the students, teachers, and staff of Franklin County School to get to learn more about Gulf Coast State College while at the same time providing a fun way for them to engage with our men's basketball team."
